Eden: Impact Of Urban Renewal

Eden Irgens/RangeNW provides this fact sheet re: success of ignite cda:

  • 1. Range does not run all of the campaigns of politicians.
  • 2. The 'tax base' that the urban renewal efforts have helped create is $555 million with an estimated 1400 jobs. Please feel free to contact the organization for evidence. We have a city council member asking "where are the jobs," which he should be aware of as a leader of our community.
  • 3. US Bank Call Center wouldn't have come here without the improvements the city made, through urban renewal dollars, to put in the turn lane.
  • 4. Riverstone launched right before the recession, which was a major setback. It is now doing well. I'm not sure what you would term a raging success but they are attracting new businesses and relocation of other businesses there.
  • 5. Every organization needs to communicate and connect with their audiences / constituents. it's fundamental to business - public or private.
  • 6. The city (and public) just acquired the BNSF land, which will integrate into the 4 Corners project to provide more green space and waterfront access between city Park and Riverstone - through ignite cda purchasing it. The city didn't have the $, but through TIF funding, ignite cda was able to get that for the community - a HUGE win. Urban Renewal critic and city councilman, Dan Gookin, voted yes on this purchase, fyi.
  • 7. A large part of the centennial trail was provided through urban renewal dollars, as well.

DFO: I'd add McEuen Park overhaul to the list. But some heads might explode.
