ITD Hit w/2nd '15 Asbestos Fine 

The Idaho Transportation Department has agreed to pay nearly $52,000 in fines for demolishing an office building in downtown Priest River that was riddled with asbestos, without taking any of the required precautions to keep the cancer-causing fibers from spreading. It’s the second time in less than a year that the ITD has done this. Thoughts?

Pooping Cyclist Starts Boise Fire 

A mountain biker who tried to burn his toilet paper after going No. 2 is responsible for a 73-acre brush fire in the Boise Foothills Wednesday. The BLM hasn't released the guys name. But he could be face a $250 fine and the cost of fire suppression efforts. A BLM spokeswoman gave him props for coming forward after the dirty deed.

Missoula May Ban Circus Animals 

Missoula council members will vote in August on a measure banning wild and exotic animals from circus acts. UMontana animal law expert Stacey Gordon helped draft the measure based on laws already in place elsewhere. If passed, Gordon says the law would not touch the rodeo, and only covers shows like circus elephant acts. Thoughts?

PFPD Finds Live Grenades In House 

The Post Falls Police Department found live hand grenades in a house in the 500 block of W12th Ave late Wednesday afternoon. A crew from Fairchild Air Force Base responded to the scene and took the grenades into custody because they are considered property of the federal government. Officers arrested a male in connection with the incident.

Alicia Troye took this photo of Greg Moore in his patrol car in spring 2014. Moore was on patrol in their Coeur d'Alene neighborhood and he stopped by to say hi. Troye's daughter Quinn, then a first-grader, had an school assignment to read aloud to an adult. Moore happily volunteered to listen. Troye said, "He was the greatest person I ever met." CPD To Replace Sgt. Moore's Patrol Car 

The Coeur d'Alene City Council has OK'd $56,144 in General Fund surplus to buy a patrol to replace the one CPD Sgt. Greg Moore was driving on the night he was slain. In making the request, Police Chief Lee White said his department couldn't collect insurance money to replace the vehicle which could be held for evidence for decades.

In his Johnson Post today, Marc Johnson argues for a western woman to replace Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill: Jeannette Rankin of Missoula, Mont. Among many other things, Rankin was remembered for her votes, decades apart, against the United States entering WWI and (the lone vote against) WWII.

"The ink isn't dry on Idaho's $108 million surplus and already you can hear a familiar chant: Time for a tax cut," writes Opinion Editor Marty Trillhaase of the Lewiston Tribune. CHS Viks Remember Reggie Nault

Family, friends and school mates gathered at the Coeur d'Alene High baseball field Wednesday night to remember the life of Vik athlete Reggie Nault. The 16YO disappeared during a boat outing on Lake Coeur d'Alene Tuesday night and is presumed drowned. Brian Walker and Jason Elliott of the CdA Press covered last night's event.
