SB 1066, to authorize a new presidential primary election on the second Tuesday of March, hasn’t passed the House yet, but JFAC this morning voted 14-6 to authorize the up to $2 million in funding that would be needed if the bill passes. If it doesn’t pass, the funding bill would be pulled back. “There is some speculation that the costs would be much less,” said Sen. Shawn Keough, R-Sandpoint, “and I would also add that it is for any presidential primary for any of our registered parties.” Sen. Jim Guthrie, R-McCammon, said, “I’m just not convinced this is a good use of money.” Rep. John Gannon, D-Boise, said, “Our budget is so tight that we should be spending our money much more carefully.
