CPD To Join Officer Memorial Day

Real Life Ministries delivered huge buckets of thank you cards to the Post Falls Police Department that they collected from their congregation to five Kootenai County law enforcement agencies in honor of National Police Week.

Sgt. Christie Wood of the Coeur d'Alene Police Department reminds us:

At 1 p.m. Friday, local law enforcement agencies will gather at Fallen Heroes Plaza located at Cherry Hill Park 15th St/Hazel Ave, in recognition of National Police Week. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. A Police Honor Guard made up of Coeur d’Alene Police Department, Idaho State Police, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, and the Rathdrum Police Department will participate in a short wreath laying ceremony to honor fallen officers. We all continue to grieve the recent death of Coeur d’Alene Police Sergeant Greg Moore. The risk that comes with wearing the uniform has never been greater. According to recent FBI statistics more than three times as many officers were killed during a crime in 2014 than the year before. A total of 51 officers died during car chases, traffic stops, ambushes and responding to other calls.

Question: Have you told an officer how much you appreciate him or her recently?
