Blogos: Happy Birthday, Marines

On this, the 240th anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps, I thought it would be nice to remember a Marine who had a major impact on Kootenai County as well as the state of Idaho -- former Kootenai County commissioner Ron Rankin (standing, upper left). Here's a photo of the 1st Marine Reservists who were called to active duting to fight in the Korean War. Rankin, whose daughter is Post Falls City Councilwoman Kerri Thoreson, survived the battle of the Chosin Reservoir. Kerri was born a year after Rankin returned from war.
