The lilac bushes on the side of our house are in full bloom. Every morning and every evening, I stand on our deck and breathe in their sweet, spring fragrance. I never want to live in a place where the lilacs don't bloom.

Jailed Montana resort founder invokes right to silence 

The jailed founder of a Montana resort for the ultrarich says he won’t answer a judge’s demands to reveal what happened to hundreds of millions of dollars in assets sought by his creditors. Yellowstone Club founder Timothy Blixseth invoked his Fifth Amendment right to remain silent to avoid self-incrimination in court documents filed Thursday.

The bison could soon become the national mammal of the United States. Legislation approved by Congress would elevate the bison’s stature to approach that of the bald eagle, long the national emblem. There has not been an official mammal of the United States.

Prescription drugs found at Prince’s home 

This report shouldn't surprise anyone, but it is certainly sad. Investigators are looking into whether Prince died from an overdose and whether a doctor was prescribing him drugs in the weeks before he was found dead at his home in suburban Minneapolis, a law enforcement official told the Associated Press on Thursday.

Vandals drop to FCS, joining Big Sky in 2018  

Idaho will drop to the Football Championship Subdivision beginning in 2018 and intends to join the Big Sky Conference. Idaho President Chuck Staben made the announcement Thursday. The Vandals will remain at the Football Bowl Subdivision level for the next two seasons as part of the transition to the lower division.

Spokane PD's newest member

Even when she’s not on the job, Daisy likes to keep her nose to the ground. The 14-month-old bloodhound is the newest member of the Spokane Police Department’s K9 unit. She was brought on specifically to track missing children and vulnerable adults with her handler, Sgt. Jason Reynolds, who supervises the unit.

The Post Falls PD reported this incident yesterday: Injury to child/weapon offense at Kiwanis Park- Units responded to the park on a report of a possible shot fire. When units arrived, it was discovered that a 3 year old had found a loaded 9mm in the vehicle and accidently fired the weapon.

This was the scene a few blocks from my house last night. My husband was cooking salmon on the BBQ when he heard police warning residents to stay indoors. Seems a bank robber shot a man twice inside a Wells Fargo Bank branch in north Spokane Thursday evening.
