Wild Card/Monday — 8.22.16

I threw caution to the wind and rode the 3rd Street bike trail this morning. After stopping at 3rd & Harrison, I noticed that the driver of the pickup alongside me at the stop was using about 6 inches of the bike lane. Then, about 2 blocks away, I was almost hit -- by a bicyclist who blew through a stop sign trying to beat the southbound 3rd Street traffic. He slammed on his brakes and used the eastern sidewalk until he rode far enough of ahead to cut across to the bike lane and avoid my stink eye. I'll need to ride the 3rd Street trail again. It feels somewhat like the narrow 15th Street bike trail, with the traffic so close and all. But you can also use the areas along the sidewalk where there are no cars parked. All in all, I'd give the 3rd Street bike lane somewhat of a thumbs up. Here's your Monday Wild Card ...
