Huckleberries Online

Wild Card/Thursday — 2.4.16

My siblings and I have found a diary that my 90YO mother kept in 1950, my first year of life. There's a lot of routine stuff in there re: daily life on a dairy, church and entertaining numerous relatives who lived nearby. But occasionally there's a nugget about the baby, whom she described too many times as "cranky" and "fussy." (Some things never change.) I know, for example, the date of the first time I crawled. Took my first step. Went "pee-pee" in a toilet. And the first solid food that I ate -- apricot farina, on Feb. 16, 1950. Feb. 16 also was the date of my first post on Huckleberries Online, in 2004. The diary is a good reminder how much my mother cared for me when I couldn't care for myself. Great stuff. Here's your Thursday Wild Card ...
