Sandpoint to vote on refuge issue 

At KREM 2, Taylor Viydo is in Sandpoint to cover tonight's controversial vote on a resolution in support of Syrian refugees. Taylor already has live-tweeted that people are lined up to get into council chambers. But no public comment will be allowed. There's also the rumor of a recall election.

Bert Caldwell will retire Feb. 19 after almost five years as editorial page editor of The Spokesman-Review. Associate Editor Gary Crooks will take over as opinion editor. Caldwell, 65, has worked for The Spokesman-Review nearly 32 years as a reporter, editor and business columnist.

Sanders up 27 points in NH 25 

Bernie Sanders is beating Hillary Clinton by 27 points in New Hampshire, according to a new CNN/WMUR poll. The Vermont senator is the favorite of 60 percent of the Granite State's likely Democratic primary voters, compared to 33 percent for Clinton.

Thrown jalapeno leads to battery 

A Priest River man is among the suspects in a battery at Love's Travel Stop Sunday morning that began with a thrown jalapeno. The suspect and two companions allegedly threw the jalapeno at a man in a nearby table and then beat him so badly that he needed dental work when the victim approached them.

In today's editorial, the Coeur d'Alene Press rips Idaho Republican activists who are working to further limit voter participation in the party's primary elections: "The state Republican Party is working feverishly to limit voter participation and forward only the most conservative Republican candidates."
