Love this shot of Beehive Dome in the Idaho Selkirk Mountains. It's the view from Pack River Road, whereabouts I spent a lot of time when I was younger. We lived for a spell off Samuels Road and I was at Buck N Edna's (RIP) bar many afternoons with my babysitter.

Vigil set for Thursday evening

The Orlando massacre happened 2,763 miles away, but its effects are being felt right here in North Idaho. That's why concerned citizens such as Juli Stratton are calling for action. A peace and justice vigil will be held at the Fourth Street entrance of McEuen Park at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Poacher banned from hunting for life 

A southwest Idaho man who illegally killed a trophy bighorn sheep has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $10,000. Fifty-three-year-old Paul Cortez of Nampa also received a lifetime hunting ban at his sentencing on June 6 in Idaho County Court.

Idaho SAT scores released 

Idaho’s new SAT scores are in, and the scores on the college-entrance exam are mixed. Students taking the exam in April posted an average score of 511 on the reading and writing portion of the test, the State Department of Education said Tuesday.

Wallace couple charged with nephew's murder 

After allegedly living with the decomposing body of their nephew in an Arlee camper for nearly three months, an Idaho couple are facing murder charges. The body of Richard Warner, 18, was found June 2 crumpled in the shower of an Arlee camper that belonged to Kassandra and Stephan Seese, according to court documents.

Grizzly committee meeting this month

The multi-agency committee responsible for coordinating the recovery of grizzly bears in the continental United States and adjacent Canadian Provinces will meet in the heart of the Selkirk and Cabinet-Yaak recovery areas this month. The Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee's 2016 summer meeting is set for June 22-23 in Bonners Ferry.

The Idaho Mission Project is on a mission to serve Kootenai County, and ElderHelp of North Idaho is the first stop along the way. About 300 youths from all over the United States will be spending time at Twinlow Camp and Retreat Center in Rathdrum throughout the summer.

Spirit Lake sports complex progressing 

Volunteer Park is blossoming in Spirit Lake. A full-size adult soccer field, an adult softball field and a youth soccer field are being added to the park on 4.5 acres at the site at 10th and Jefferson. "We hope to have grass growing before fall," Spirit Lake Mayor Todd Clary said. "That will allow soccer to be played."

Gallup: Confidence in newspapers at historic low 

Americans' confidence in the nation's major institutions continues to lag below historical averages, with two institutions -- newspapers and organized religion -- dropping to record lows this year. The overall average of Americans expressing "a great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in 14 institutions is below 33% for the third straight year.

The Wassmuth Center for Human Rights, which is holding its annual summer institute in Boise this week, has decided in the wake of the Orlando shooting to open up several of its sessions to the public for free; they focus on issues relating to inclusion, diversity, and preventing discrimination and violence.
