NIC board seeks trustee applications

The North Idaho College Board of Trustees is seeking an appointee for the newly formed Trustee Zone 5, which is located in the northwest corner of Kootenai County and encompasses an area north of Poleline Avenue and mostly west of Atlas Road. Letters of interest are now being solicited to fill the position.

An exact map of the five NIC trustee zones can be found online at www.nic.edu/board.

At its June 16 meeting, the Idaho State Board of Education approved formation of the zones, which was required by Idaho House Bill 512 that passed during the 2016 legislative session. HB 512 charges every Idaho community college with establishing five zones in its district divided equally by population. Because of the mandate from the state, two of NIC’s current trustees – Ron Nilson and Todd Banducci – reside in the same district, which is not allowed under the new law. Nilson has resigned from his position effective July 2.

The NIC Board of Trustees is soliciting letters of interest from potential trustees residing in NIC Trustee Zone 5 from now until 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 15. The board will hold interviews with potential trustees in early August and expect to fill the vacancy by the Aug. 24 board meeting. The NIC Trustee Zone 5 position will then be up for election Nov. 8, 2016. Potential candidates must reside in NIC Trustee Zone 5. Letters of interest should be addressed to:

Chairman of the NIC Board of Trustees

President’s Office

1000 W Garden Ave.

Coeur d’Alene, ID, 83814
