I rode my bike to work today, the second time this year that I've done so. I've been a slacker this year when it comes to bike riding. Last year, I rode my bike almost daily. Dunno why I haven't this year. Mebbe it's the thought of all those distracted drivers on cell phones, using the same streets.

Paul, Colbert spotlight McCall, Idaho 

Actor Aaron Paul of the popular "Breaking Bad" show had fun discussing his native Idaho on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert." The two participated in a regular segment on the show in which Colbert discusses the community calendar of small towns in this country. Paul and Colbert targeted McCall, Idaho (video).

Two men who helped transform the Coeur d'Alene waterfront into the wonderful place it is today will be the subject of a community tribute Friday -- the late Coeur d'Alene residents Scott Reed and Art Manley. I was privileged to know both men and report on their battles to protect Sanders Beach, Tubbs Hill, Cougar Bay and Lake Coeur d'Alene.

The latest round of SAT scores places Idaho above the national averages across the board, and the State Board of Education is encouraged. “Overall, this is a positive for Idaho and the work being done in our schools,” State Board executive director Matt Freeman said in a news release.

Plane crash kills 70YO Spokane pilot 

Authorities have identified the pilot who died in a plane crash Saturday afternoon in Kootenai County as Kenneth D. Chapman, 70, of Spokane. Chapman’s body was found in the wreckage of a downed plane about 25 yards up a steep embankment. The crash occurred in the Horsehaven area, about 40 miles east of Coeur d'Alene.

Court rejects Texas abortion law 30 

In a dramatic ruling, the Supreme Court on Monday threw out a Texas abortion access law in a victory to supporters of abortion rights who argued it would have shuttered all but a handful of clinics in the state. The 5-3 ruling is the most significant decision from the Supreme Court on abortion in two decades.

Arthur Brooks showed up in Coeur d’Alene this weekend ready to find a suitable mate for his son, Salt Lake City businessman Baron Brooks, and left with around a dozen prospects. However, he'll interview them later. His plan to interview the women at the Coeur d'Alene resort was thwarted when management asked him not to do so.
