STCU robbery try ends in gunfire

Spokane County sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man who may have been shot by a credit union customer during an attempted robbery Thursday afternoon. Witnesses reported an armed robbery at the STCU South Valley branch, 13211 E. 32nd Ave., around 1:40 p.m. Thursday, said Deputy Mark Gregory, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office. Preliminary reports from witnesses inside the branch indicate the man – described as a white male, between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a fishing hat and a gray shirt with red lettering – was shot by a customer and struck somewhere in the upper chest or shoulder area, Gregory said. The information is preliminary and has not been confirmed, Gregory said/SR. More here (subscription required).

The man fled on foot north or northeast from the branch location.
