Car-bike crash kills 8YO boy

An 8-year-old boy was killed Monday afternoon while riding his bicycle in a residential neighborhood near Post Falls. Preliminary investigation indicates that the boy was riding south on Pine and was struck by a car traveling east on Aspen Way, said Kootenai County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ward Crawford. The boy was transported to Kootenai Health where he was pronounced dead. The car was driven by a 22-year-old man from Post Falls. He was arrested on an unrelated warrant for a minor traffic violation, Crawford said. Investigators found no obvious signs that the driver was drunk or using drugs, Crawford said. The boy was riding with two other boys who were not struck. There is no stop sign at the intersection for traffic on Aspen Way. There is a stop sign for traffic on Pine at Aspen. The incident remains under investigation. “We’re moving deliberately slowly and methodically on this,” Crawford said/SR.
