Parting Shot -- 5.19.16 

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to ban the display of the Confederate flag on flagpoles on flagpoles at Veterans Administration cemeteries. The 265-159 vote would block descendants and others seeking to commemorate veterans of the Confederate States of America from flying the Confederae Battle Flag over mass graves.

FBI searches for Kingston doctor 

The FBI is continuing its search for a fugitive North Idaho doctor who was convicted of 66 federal drug charges earlier this week. Rafael L.W. Beier, 61, failed to show up in U.S. District Court in Idaho to hear his verdict. He was convicted of selling narcotic prescriptions to people who were not his patients.

Better Idaho wants hate crime charge 

The group “Better Idaho” has delivered petitions with more than 1,500 signatures to U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson calling for federal hate crime charges to be filed against the four men who beat Steven Nelson to death, after luring him to a meeting at Lake Lowell through an ad in a gay publication.

Poll: Native Americans OK w/'Redskins' 

A new Washington Post poll found that 90 percent of Native Americans aren't offended by the Washington Redskins' nickname and an overwhelming majority consider it an unimportant issue. The Post polled 504 people who identify primarily as Native American from across the country.

Can Democrat Kristi Milan beat state Sen. Mary Souza in the race for the Senate District 4 in the general election this fall? Souza has the magical "R" after her name -- and she did attract 3,198 votes in her unopposed GOP primary "race." Milan, on the other hand, received 862 votes on the Democratic side.

Donald Trump escalated his attacks on former President Bill Clinton, accusing him of rape in a Fox News interview Wednesday. In an interview on Fox News’s “Hannity,” Sean Hannity compared allegations of Trump harassing women that appeared in The New York Times with accusations made against the former president.

Smokers lie to lower insurance cost 

In Idaho, 17 percent of adults smoke regularly, a federal survey shows, but fewer than 3 percent who bought coverage this year on the state’s insurance exchange paid the tobacco surcharge. The deception has insurer's steamed. Non-smokers should be, too, because the lie means the rest of us are paying higher insurance premiums.

Poll: Idahoans don't like Trump, Clinton 50 

In Idaho, according to an Idaho Politics Weekly poll, Republican Donald Trump would beat Hillary Clinton 49% to 32%. But the poll also learned that Idahoans don't like either candidates. In fact, Idaho might turn blue if Bernie Sanders found a way to snatch the Democratic presidential nomination from Clinton.
