CdA among dog-friendly Idaho cities 

In a Visit Idaho article, Coeur d'Alene is listed No. 4 among "5 Idaho cities with dog-friendly adventures." Coeur d'Alene follows Boise, McCall and Stanley -- and is ahead of Sun Valley. Coeur d'Alene is touted mainly for all the pedestrian and bike trails in the vicinity. No mention is made of the three dog parks including one at McEuen Park.

Mayor condemns Dietrich bullying 

Don Heiken, mayor of tiny Dietrich, is speaking out after a family filed a $10 million lawsuit against the school district. The family are seeking damages as a result of an alleged sexual assault by 3 white football players on a black, mentally disabled child. The mayor says the coaches & others should be fired for allowing ongoing bullying.

Devin Heilman of the Coeur d'Alene Press shines a spotlight on my favorite place in Post Falls -- the Jacklin Arts & Cultural Center. The JACC was the site of my 40th wedding anniversary last June. My wife and I renewed our vows before 60-70 family members and friends. A wonderful venue for such an event.

Poll: 73% of Idaho wants land takeover? 13 

According to a poll from Idaho Politics Weekly, most Idahoans want federal lands handed over to the state. The poll, conducted on 603 Idaho residents April 8-19, showed 73 percent of them would like to see management of federal lands given to the state of Idaho. This poll flies in the ace of a 2014 poll that showed 52% opposed public land takeover.

Idaho leads USA in melanoma death rate 

daho had the highest melanoma death rate nationally between 2001 and 2005, 26 percent higher than the national average with about 40 Idahoans dying of melanoma every year, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s skin cancer state statistics. In 2012, Idahoans developed melanoma at a rate of 26.9 per 100,000 each year.

Trump OK w/zoo killing gorilla 10 

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump says the Cincinnati Zoo had "no choice" but to shoot dead the gorilla that was dragging a toddler around an enclosure. "I think it's a very tough call." A gorilla named Harambe was killed Saturday after a 4-year-old boy slipped into an exhibit and it was concluded his life was in danger.

Father makes girl marry her rapist 16 

An Idaho man will spend about four months in jail for taking his 14-year-old daughter to Missouri to marry a 24-year-old man who raped and impregnated her. The father pleaded guilty to injury to a child last week, and a judge put him behind bars for 120 days and ordered four years of supervised probation, the Idaho State Journal reported.

Donald Trump lashed out at the press over scrutiny of the money he raised to donate to veterans groups, in one instance pointing to a reporter and calling him a “sleaze.” Which raises the question. Andrus reflects on long political career 

Former Idaho governor Cecil Andrus is 85 now. He is yhe last Democrat to lead deep-red Idaho, serving four terms, interruped by a four-year Cabinet post as Interior secretary under Jimmy Carter.
