Hump Day Wild Card -- 5.4.16 

Another viewtiful day has dawned in the Shire. A sister is visiting from out-of-state to see my almost 91YO mother and the three sibs in Kootenai County. I'm looking forward to some family reunion, rehashing old memories and maybe making some new ones. I'm also looking forward to meeting a new grand niece.

NIC scholarship to honor Sgt Moore

The Sergeant Greg Moore Memorial Scholarship has been established by friends of Moore through the North Idaho College Foundation to honor the Coeur d’Alene Police officer who was killed in the line of duty on May 5, 2015. The Walla Walla Sunrise Rotary Club has already donated $4,000 toward the scholarship. Moore grew up in Walla Walla.

CHS picks Stockwell as girls' cage coach 

Scott Stockwell is going back to the gym where he was introduced to basketball as a youth. Stockwell has been named the Coeur d’Alene girls coach, replacing the retired Dale Poffenroth. A Post Falls High graduate, it will be Stockwell’s first head coaching job.

Samuel moved to juvenile facility

Eldon Gale Samuel III, the Coeur d’Alene teen convicted of murdering his father and brother, was moved Wednesday to an Idaho juvenile prison to begin serving his sentence of at least 20 years. Samuel, 16, was transferred from a state maximum security prison in Kuna to one of the state’s three juvenile corrections facilities.

SR Photo Blog: Playland Pier 

S-R Archive find of the day: In this 1941 photo, Playland Pier in Coeur d'Alene was one of the main attractions for summer fun in the area. In 1966 the city drew up a 5 year plan for the beach area, which included the removal of the amusement center, but in 1973 the removal was still being debated. (Q: Do you remember Playland Pier?)

The Ohio governor will make the announcement about his campaign at 5 p.m. on Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio, his campaign said. Idaho continues to sell state land 

Idaho has sold 100,434 acres of state land since 2000, part of the 41 percent of land it has sold since Congress gave it at statehood. The land sales over more than a century have gone to timber companies, cattle ranchers, private fishing clubs and lakeside homeowners on Priest and Payette lakes.

8YO had zest for life

Phillip J. Geisinger loved adventures. The 8-year-old's zest for life came to a sudden and tragic halt on Monday when he died as a result of a vehicle versus bicycle collision while riding his bike in his Pine Villa neighborhood in Post Falls. "He was adventurous," Phillip's father, Darrin, told the Coeur d'Alene Press.
