Letter: Hold your nose & vote GOP 19

In a letter to the Sandpoint Reader, Rick Price urges Democrats and Independents to hold their noses and register to vote in the Idaho GOP primary on Tuesday, May 17. Price reasons correctly that voters who don't cast their votes in the GOP primary, where most of the general election races are settled, have allowed themselves to be disenfranchised.

Four years ago, Sen. Bob Nonini of Coeur d’Alene didn’t have kind words for Sen. Shawn Keough of Sandpoint, and was doing his part to secure her election defeat. Today, he’s working for her re-election in one of the most closely-watched primary battles in the state.

Redman's conservatism challenged 10

We all know that Eric Redman, R-Athol, is very conservative, having unsuccessfully sponsored a controversial bill to ban Sharia law from being cited in Idaho court decisions. Now, challenger Allen Littlejohn, a retired ex-fireman from California, says that Redman isn't conservative enough. The 2 seek the HD 2 seat formerly held by Phil Hart.

City settles Hitching Post suit 12

Coeur d’Alene settled a lawsuit — filed by the Hitching Post over the city’s anti-discrimination law — for $1,000.01 on Friday. According to city attorney Mike Gridley, the city felt the settlement offer would save money. “Rather than using the taxpayers' money on defending our ordinance, we felt spending $1,000 was worth it to get out of it."

Opinion: Ready to lose with Cruz 29

I recently saw a political cartoon that quite accurately portrays the way many Americans seem to feel about the 2016 election cycle. The cartoon depicts a voter poking his head out of the voting booth to question an election official passing by. “I don’t see my candidate,” he says. “I call him ‘Lesser of Two Evils.’ ”

Everyone who votes in the primary election, regardless of party, can vote in the Supreme Court race.
