The driver of a car involved in a collision that killed an 8-year-old bicyclist in Post Falls on Monday was arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant and for possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. Chadd W. Webster, 22, of Post Falls, could face additional charges in the investigation, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
In a letter to the Sandpoint Reader, Rick Price urges Democrats and Independents to hold their noses and register to vote in the Idaho GOP primary on Tuesday, May 17. Price reasons correctly that voters who don't cast their votes in the GOP primary, where most of the general election races are settled, have allowed themselves to be disenfranchised.
Four years ago, Sen. Bob Nonini of Coeur d’Alene didn’t have kind words for Sen. Shawn Keough of Sandpoint, and was doing his part to secure her election defeat. Today, he’s working for her re-election in one of the most closely-watched primary battles in the state.
We all know that Eric Redman, R-Athol, is very conservative, having unsuccessfully sponsored a controversial bill to ban Sharia law from being cited in Idaho court decisions. Now, challenger Allen Littlejohn, a retired ex-fireman from California, says that Redman isn't conservative enough. The 2 seek the HD 2 seat formerly held by Phil Hart.

In its Sunday editorial, the Coeur d'Alene Press said: "... Put us in the Vandal fan club that’s happy to see the University of Idaho commit to playing in the Big Sky Conference again starting in two years, pending Board of Education approval. But be warned: There’s certain to be turbulence ahead."
An 8-year-old boy was killed Monday afternoon while riding his bicycle in a residential neighborhood near Post Falls. Preliminary investigation indicates that the boy was riding south on Pine and was struck by a car traveling east on Aspen Way, said Kootenai County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ward Crawford.
An Idaho Transportation Department proposal to transfer ownership of Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive to local jurisdictions is back on the table after being placed on the back burner in 2013. A new version of the plan will be released during a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Coeur d’Alene Public Library’s Community Room.
Differences in where the two Republican Kootenai County sheriff candidates stand on topics were expressed during a forum at Candlelight Christian Fellowship on Monday night. Sheriff Ben Wolfinger will be challenged by John Green in the May 17 primary. The winner will face Democrat candidate Tina Kunishige in November.
Coeur d’Alene settled a lawsuit — filed by the Hitching Post over the city’s anti-discrimination law — for $1,000.01 on Friday. According to city attorney Mike Gridley, the city felt the settlement offer would save money. “Rather than using the taxpayers' money on defending our ordinance, we felt spending $1,000 was worth it to get out of it."
I've never run Bloomsday. Have you?
Be sure to check out the fantastic photo gallery in the story below.
Nearly 50,000 runners and walkers swarmed downtown Spokane on Sunday for the 40th running of the annual Bloomsday race, and thousands more lined the streets of the Lilac City to cheer them on.

I'm afraid too many vacation days have caught up with DFO and he's still not ready to get back in the saddle.
You'll have to put up with the third string for one more day.
I'm extra excited to see 'Newsies' tomorrow night. The musical about the 1899 newsboy strike against newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer features former Spokane resident, Morgan Keene.
Do you have a favorite musical?

He's considering it. Unfortunately, his tummy doesn't travel well at all.

I recently saw a political cartoon that quite accurately portrays the way many Americans seem to feel about the 2016 election cycle.
The cartoon depicts a voter poking his head out of the voting booth to question an election official passing by.
“I don’t see my candidate,” he says. “I call him ‘Lesser of Two Evils.’ ”
Reba Buchan spent two hours in the Riverwalk pool then grabbed lunch before dealing cards for Marble War with a table of ladies during Open Senior Time on a recent Wednesday at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene.

I'm afraid school superintendent Matt Handelman may find himself outgunned in a dueling memo battle against Christa Hazel.
Hazel raises important questions regarding the attendance zone process and the parameters set for the committee-- parameters she says were NOT board-directed.
Thoughts?

Everyone who votes in the primary election, regardless of party, can vote in the Supreme Court race.
