Weekend Wild Card — 10.22-23.16

Half the leaves are done from my beautiful clump birch in the front yard. I'll wait until they're all down to rake some out into the street and the rest to my neighbor. He uses the leaves as compost. It's a nice arrangement. Falling leaves, of course, mean winter's closing in. First, Halloween. Then, Thanksgiving. And finally Christmas. The three steps toward winter. I'm ambivalent about winter. I enjoy Christmas in Coeur d'Alene that launches with the Black Friday parade. Downtown Coeur d'Alene during the holidays is postcard perfect. Then comes January and the dreary days of February. Fortunately, the Gonzaga Bulldogs will be with us again to help us survive the rest of the winter until good weather re-emerges. I have this all figured out. So you don't have to worry about it. Here's your Wild Card ...
