Wild Card/Monday -- 10.31.16 

I mowed my lawn Sunday, Oct. 30. I MOWED my lawn on Oct. 30. OCTOBER 30. I can' remember mowing my lawn this late in the year since I moved to the Inland Northwest in 1977, except for those two golden years in Lewiston, the Banana Belt of Idaho. The lawn was wet. But neighbor Jerry and I had made sure on Saturday that it was relatively leaf-less.

CPD arrests 5 in 'purge' scare 14 

Coeur d’Alene police arrested two 19-year-old men and three juveniles over the weekend on various charges relating to an attempt to scare people with weapons in a “purge,” evoking the 2013 dystopian horror film “The Purge.” Six males wearing face masks and dark clothing, carrying weapons, were harassing people in McEuen Park parking structure.

Prosecutor: Road rage led to Kirk murder 15 

William “Bo” Kirk was kidnapped, bound and shot to death in a road-rage incident in Coeur d’Alene, prosecutors alleged in court Monday afternoon. David E. Hutto,44, is accused of killing Kirk last week. A judge set bail at $2 million. He faces up to life in prison if convicted. Scott Maben/SR reports.

City quits search in bell damage at Vets Plaza 12 

The city of Coeur d'Alene has discontinued its search for those involved in damaging the bell at Veterans Plaza at McEuen Park. City officials are satisfied that there was no malicious intent involved in the incident. The bell fell when a couple tried to ring it. The city plans to fix the bell and immobilize it.
