A man in his mid to late 60s lost consciousness and fell, hitting his face, at Washington Trust on Government Way this PM. The 911 dispatcher described the male as "elderly." At 66, I guess I resemble that, although I don't feel particularly "elderly." (Question: How would you describe "elderly"?)

A Berry Picker from the old part of Coeur d'Alene, south of East Sherman Avenue, is concerned re: the lack of city regulations for "scrap-downs." HucksOnline calls them "scrapers" -- the old houses leveled by the got-rocks crowd who then put up a monster home that covers most of a 5,000sf lot. You see them all over Fort Grounds. Let's discuss this.

2 incinerator workers still 'critical'

The city of Spokane has identified the two workers who were burned in an industrial accident Tuesday morning at Spokane’s Waste-to-Energy Plant. Both are still in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle today. They are Larry Pratt, 48, and Craig Law, 39.

Heavier trucks proposed for CdA north 

Bigger, heavier trucks could be traveling on U.S. Highway 95 and several other North Idaho highways in the future. Idaho Forest Group wants to ship lumber in larger loads to Home Depot’s Salt Lake City warehouse from its three sawmills at Chilco, Moyie Springs and Laclede. (DFO: On the surface, I don't like this idea. How about you?)

Head-on Careywood crash kills 2

A passenger and an unidentified driver in a northbound 1983 Oldsmobile were killed on Highway 95 at Careywood when their vehicle crashed head-on with a Peterbilt truck Tuesday night, closing the road for five hours. A 31YO Oregon passenger and an unidentified driver were killed in the accident.

The city of Coeur d’Alene and its Arts Commission is seeking public input on a major new art piece to be installed at Riverstone Park. Three miniature versions of the potential art – known as maquettes – are now on display at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library for feedback.

Letter: Vito sails under false colors 

In a letter to the Coeur d'Alene Press editor, former legislator Mike Blackbird compares state Rep. Vito Barbieri, R-Dalton Gardens, to pirates of old who sailed under false colors. By voting against proper education funding, Barbieri (and other legislators like him) have foisted property tax hikes on school districts throughout Idaho, he says.

In an editorial this AM in the Moscow-Pullman Daily News, editorialist Devon Rokyta takes on the ridiculous attempt by too many Idaho elected officials to grab control of public lands. First, Rokyta points out, a group of Western attorneys general have concluded that a similar effort in Utah has little to no chance of succeeding.

All but one candidate has agreed to appear next Wednesday, Oct. 12, at a local candidate forum at the Athol Community Center. Republican commissioner candidate Bob Bingham has ignored repeated requests from forum organizer to make his case for office. He is opposed by Independent Russ McLain.

I'm at your mercy on this one. I didn't see the vice presidential debate. I may or may not see it. So I'll ask you how the two candidates did. It sounds as though the debate was lively. Mrs. O said she watched it until the candidates started yelling. Clinton vs Trump was enough yell-a-thon for her.

School board may seek levy, bond 13 

The Coeur d'Alene School Board likely will seek a two-year supplemental levy in the $30M range, reports Bethany Blitz/Press. That won't raise taxes. However, the board may also seek a $30M bond to build a new elementary and upgrade existing facilities. Would you support such action?

CdA eyes vacation rental rules 

Here's one that's of interest to my family. The city of Coeur d'Alene is asking the public to weigh in on proposed rules and regulations for vacation rentals. My brother and my sister from central California rent houses when they visit, including one on Tubbs Hill 2 years ago. It has been a good experience for them.
