Moscow warns scary clowns at UI campus 

Seems the scary-clown fad has hit campus at the University of Idaho. UI campus security responded to reports of people dresses as clown, on and off campus. None of the sightings involved acts of violence. However, the city of Moscow has issued a warning to those involved in clowning around. There could be consequences.

Here's why you don't sell public land 

Columnist Barrett Rainey uses the purchase of 172,000 acres of land in southern Idaho by 2 Texas billionaires as proof that public land in Idaho shouldn't be privatized. The billionaires immediately closed their land to hunting. And average Idahoans lost out. That's what will likely happen if we give heed to clueless calls for sale of public land.

Edit: Lost in tomorrow's hashtag 

A Moscow-Pullman Daily News editorial spotlights the social media impact on the NFL players' protest against race relations in this country. Social media made the protest a big deal for a week or so. But now the protest is being moved off stage by the next big social media deal. The edit says the players' protest is worth discussion not a hashtag.

As you know, Coeur d'Alene's Sherman Avenue was named one of the nation's 5 "Great Streets." The American Planning Association made that announcement Monday. I agree that Sherman Avenue is swell. 2 critical after incinerator accident

Two workers at the city’s Waste-to-Energy Plant were burned by steam Tuesday morning in what officials called “a serious accident” and are in critical condition. Spokane firefighters arrived at the city’s trash incinerator shortly before 10 a.m. after a report of multiple victims being burned.

Grizzly attacks now more fequent 

A Montana sheriff compared a man who was attacked twice by a grizzly sow protecting her cubs to getting hit by license twice. A graphic video made by Todd Orr, 50, who'd been scouting for elk in the Madison Range has gone viral, attracting 27M Facebook views. Wildlife officials are concerned re: growing number of bear attacks.

Creepy clown chases CdA teen 

Cynthia Johnson/KHQ reports: 17-year-old Tyler Clinedinst told KHQ he was walking to a friend's house on the Centennial trail between Lake City High School and Bluegrass Park Sunday night when he saw a clown emerge from behind a tree. Seems the clown had knives, too.

KHQ: KKK claims return to INW 

An anonymous "Mr. Akia" tells Cynthia Johnson/KHQ that the KKK is back, and they're recruiting more members in the Inland Northwest. In September, someone left KKK flyers on doorsteps of homes in Hayden. Now, someone who claims to be a representative of the KKK has returned a call from KHQ to explain the hate group's intentions.

US wants ship N-waste facility in Idaho 

The Navy and U.S. Department of Energy want to build a $1.6 billion facility at a nuclear site in eastern Idaho that would handle fuel waste from the nation’s fleet of nuclear-powered warships through at least 2060. Idaho officials support this idea, of course. The current crew of officials never met an N-waste facility they didn't like.

Crapo bill targets vet health care 

Veterans would have better access to health care in their communities under legislation introduced Monday by Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo. The Improving Veterans Care in the Community Act would consolidate programs to cut wait times for veterans, and would address other concerns raised by Idaho veterans and private health care providers.

For some, a visit Monday to Cabela’s in Post Falls was just another day of shopping. For others, it was the first day under a cloud of uncertainty as to the future of the company following news of its acquisition by outdoor gear giant competitor Bass Pro. “I hope they keep the same standard Cabela’s is known for,” said Sarah Greenwood.
