The city of Coeur d'Alene plans to put earnest money down on a $7,850,000 purchase of the old Stimson Mill (IFI, Atlas Mill) on Seltice Way. Deputy City Administrator Sam Taylor tells Huckleberries that the city will put down $100,000 in earnest money to move to the front of the line of potential buyers of the 47 acres. The goal of the city is to annex the property, cleanup it up (it's not a brown field) and then preserve part of it (10 acres?) for a park and 1,800 feet for public access to the Spokane River. The city also would partner with ignite cda and others to develop the remainder of the property with private enterprise. The goal would be to attract corporate headquarters and other businesses that would provide good jobs for the area. Sam told Huckleberries that the city and ignite cda will look for avenues of funding, so no tax dollars will be involved in the purchase or improvements. You can see the city staff report on this plan here.
