SR biz editor joins CSDistrict 

Business Editor Scott Maben of The Spokesman-Review has been selected as the new spokesman for the Coeur d'Alene School Board. Maben, who spent much of his SR career in the Coeur d'Alene office, has 25 years of experience in reporting and management. He and wife, Carolyn, live in Coeur d'Alene and have one child in the school system.

Wild Card/Thursday -- 4.27.17 

I had an unpleasant surprise when I arrived at work today. My computer monitor made some popping sounds and then went blank. Then, I smelled a faint electrical smell. All of this equals a fried monitor. I hope that it doesn't extend to the computer. I've asked the techs downtown to send me a new monitor at noon.

'A Swingin' Farewell' for NIC band director Terry Jones 

The public is invited to “A Swingin’ Farewell” from the North Idaho College Jazz Ensemble and Cardinal Vocal Jazz at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, in the Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center. It will be tribute to NIC Band Director Terry Jones, who is retiring this spring after 30 years of organizing jazz events and other concerts.

Labrador to stage CdA townhall 

U.S. Rep. Raúl R. Labrador will host townhalls in Lewiston and Coeur d’Alene on Friday, May 5. The Coeur d'Alene townhall will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Lake City High auditorium, 6101 Ramsey Road, Coeur d'Alene.

City eyes purchase of old Atlas Mill 15 

The city of Coeur d'Alene plans to put earnest money down on a $7,850,000 purchase of the old Stimson Mill (IFI, Atlas Mill) on Seltice Way. Deputy City Administrator Sam Taylor tells Huckleberries that the city will put down $100,000 in earnest money to move to the front of the line of potential buyers of the 47 acres.

ignite cda lots to be sold

As I mentioned last week, ignite cda is in the process of removing the final 4 buildings on some 12 lots that it had purchased on Park Drive, north of Memorial Field. When the houses are gone, ignite cda will combine the lots into 10 bigger ones and sell them for private homes. The money from the sale will help fund ignite projects elsewhere.

KHQ: Local GOP fights transit center 20 

Adam Mayer of KHQ has produced a story and video report of the attempt by the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee to stop construction of a Citylink transit center at Riverstone, a project that has long been in the works. Local Republicans claim the center will be an "attractive nuisance" for illegal activities.
