Here's another item from the Feb. 24, 1985, Kootenai Grapevine/Huckleberries column:

Police Chief Frank Premo has raised concerns that his department is losing ground in the shared-use facility being studied to complement the future jail complex at the fairgrounds.

He told the General Services Committee recently that the county is dictating how much space his department could expect in the building and was pushing for total control of the 911 emergency communications system.

Should bullying by the county continue, Premo said, he felt strongly that City Hall should be expanded to accommodate his growing department "so you have local control."

Question: Do you remember the old Kootenai County Jail?
