Coeur d'Alene School District spokeswoman Laura Rumpler disputes this information. She wrote to Huckleberries tonight: "Not certain where Alex Greer of Career Trends got his data... (the original post in November references the US Bureau of Labor Statistics). He did not reach out to us or find the information locally. Our average salary for our high school teachers in our district is $45,668. Granted we would like to see that average salary higher for not only our high school teachers but all our educators, it surely is a much more accurate snapshot of average salary than the $36,470 floating around. I am reaching out to Alex personally to see where we can track down the error."

In a Nov. 30, 2016, article for Career Trends, entitled "The Worst Paying Cities for High School Teachers," Alex Greer reports:

"It’s no secret that teaching isn’t the most lucrative profession in the U.S. In fact, a 2011 study from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development found that the U.S. ranked 22nd out of 27 countries when comparing the salaries of teachers to other college-educated workers. Even within the country, teacher salaries can vary substantially. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the 2015 median salary for U.S. high school teachers was $57,200, but salaries range from over $80,000 a year in Anchorage, Alaska, to less than $40,000 in some Western cities." More here.

DFO: Several Idaho cities are on the list of 75 worst paying cities for high school teachers, including Boise and Lewiston. If you look at the screen shot above, however, you'll notice which Idaho city leads the nation as the worst paying one for high school teachers. F'shame.
