Huckleberries Online

A birthday that didn’t happen

On my Facebook page for this blog Saturday, I received a heads up that Randy Myers (pictured in Facebook photo) was celebrating his birthday. Only Randy died in June 2015. He was a commenter here who antagonized people, including your blogmeister. He was a diehard opponent of the McEuen Field makeover and supported the 2012 attempt to recall Mayor Sandi Bloem and three City Council members (Mike Kennedy, Deanna Goodlander and Woody McEvers). I clashed with Randy many times on these two matters. So did some of you others. After the recall attempt failed, Randy stuck around and became part of the ongoing conversation here. Occasionally, he spoke of health issues. Then, one day on Facebook, a mutual friend emailed me that he had passed. As Blogfest 2017 approaches, my mind turns to those who have contributed her and left us. Patrick Jacobs. Tom Wobker. Mike Anderson. Dave Laird. Dave from Atmospheric Ruminations. Randy. Joan Harmon (recently). And I'm sure there are others. We'll raise a glass to them at Blogfest 2017 (from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Fort Ground Grill).
