Wild Card/Thursday -- 7.6.17 

I didn't feel the earth shake last night, although I was awake at the time. I didn't realize that there'd been an earthquake until I checked my work Facebook account. Almost every post was about the earthquake. However, I did experience a pounding in my head earlier Wednesday.

Hooligan Island returns 

Hooligan Island, the jungle gym water toy that can't find a home on Lake Coeur d'Alene, was back off City Beach during the lunch hour today. The owners had stationed it off North Idaho College Beach on the Fourth of July weekend. City officials have refused to provide a permit for commercial use of Hooligan Island within city waters.

Republican U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador sent Idaho voters a campaign mailer asking for contributions to his gubernatorial bid ornamented with the state seal, even though the secretary of state's office says the seal should only be used for official state business.

Hayden man charged in massive child porn case

Investigators believe there could be hundreds of victims across the country in a child pornography case related to the arrest of a 41-year-old Hayden man. About 24,000 images of children, including hundreds that were of naked kids, were seized from electronic devices owned by Jason C. McGovern.

Karnowski shines in limited action

Przemek Karnowski wasn't getting a chance to play in the NBA summer league, until he switched teams. Then, he finished strong, according to Zag/SReporter Jim Meehan, with two big games for the Charlotte Hornets. We'll see if that's enough to land him an NBA team invitation or on a Las Vegas summer league team.

Post Falls PD: His pants didn't catch fire

The writer of a recent Post Falls Police Department Facebook report had some fun with a drunk Post Falls Walmart shoplifter who tried to persuade employees that he had paid for beer. The man was nabbed by employees as he walked through the self-checkout area without paying.

Jail hits record prisoner population 17 

The KCSO reports hitting another all-time high inmate population at the Jail on July 5th. The morning report showed a total of 457 inmates in custody, 130 more than the capacity of the current jail. Nearly 78% of all inmates were in custody on one or more felony charges. (Q: Does news of record inmate population bother you?)

2015 flag burner gets 10 days in jail 

A 31-year-old Coeur d’Alene man who was recorded in a surveillance video setting fire to a U.S. flag that hung in front of a store, was sentenced to 10 days in jail and two years probation. Q: Was that an appropriate sentence for flag burner Kody J. Clark?
