Monday Wild Card 7.17.17 17

So. A guy grabbed my bottom at the grocery store, Saturday. Outraged, I whirled around to confront him. I looked into his big blue eyes as he grinned happily at me. "HI! HI!" he said. I spared him the sexual harassment lecture. It's flattering to know a younger guy finds me attractive. Even if he is in diapers and sitting in a stroller.

Wayne Melquist prepares to return a banded osprey chick to the nest, July 15, 2017, on Lake Coeur d’Alene. (Dan Pelle / The Spokesman-Review)

The view from on high

After 45 years of studying osprey, Wayne Melquist does a pretty good imitation of the bird’s distinctive call. Quit Your Job for a Better One? Not if You Live in Idaho 10

Rush Limbaugh says we are witnessing “a silent coup.” The radio host has sometimes been accused of rhetorical excess, but his claim is based on a demonstrable truth. Many of President Donald Trump’s critics would indeed like “to get rid of him,” as Limbaugh says. Would you like to see President Trump impeached? CH

RIP Martin Landau and George Romero

Oscar-winning actor Martin Landau dies at 89 and zombie flick director George Romero dies at 77. I saw Landau on stage in Spokane in "Dracula" back in the late '80's. He was fantastic! And yes, I've seen all of the "Night of the Living Dead" movies. Have you? CH

Gem State surplus 19

Idaho has more money than economists expected. A lot more money. State tax revenues for the month of June came in nearly $30 million higher than projected – 8.8 percent above forecasts and 9.9 percent higher than the previous June – bringing state tax revenues for the fiscal year to $93.9 million ahead of forecast. That's some rainy day fund! CH
