Steve Yates, former Idaho Republican Party chairman, launched his campaign today in Boise, followed up with appearances in Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls. I spent quite a bit of time during my recent extended weekend hanging with my son and daughter-in-law in downtown Portland, in the area around Powell's. Downtown Portland is a different place when you don't have to worry about traffic and parking. A clean place. It's clean and has great places to eat and shop.

Court upholds grocery tax veto 

Thanks to Gov. Butch Otter, Idahoans will continue to pay the 6% sales tax on groceries. The Idaho Supreme Court has upheld his veto of the overwhelmingly approved bill to jettison the tax on groceries. Butch, of course, will ride off into the sunset after this term. So there won't be political repercussions for his veto. Alas.

Idaho GOP to revisit loyalty oath 13 

Idaho's top Republican leaders are preparing to gather in Coeur d'Alene Friday and Saturday to elect a new party chair and amend key elements of the GOP state platform. The agenda also includes voting on a resolution demanding Republican candidates pledge loyalty to the Idaho platform at least 60 days before the primary election. Thoughts?
