Rock hunter spots wandering girl

A Huckleberry Friend was in the right place at the right time -- to protect a little girl who had wandered away from her mother near the Coeur d'Alene waterfront Thursday evening. And she credits Huckleberries for directing her to McEuen Field. She enjoys hunting those painted rocks that are cropping up around town. When she saw my Facebook post that there was a good crowd at Riverstone Park for the summer concert and Coeur d'Alene 2030 event Thursday, she decided to go to McEuen Park instead. Here's her Facebook story:

"Right place, right time tonight! My new hobby is hunting painted rocks and tonight I went to one of the parks I don't usually go to for hunting. A little girl caught my eye because she was just outside the playground and there weren't any adults who seemed to be watching her. I stayed in the general area hunting for rocks for about 5 minutes. I came around the building and she was up next to the parking lot about to walk out between 2 SUVs. I hustled up there and held her hand and walked her back to the playground to find her mommy. She was with me for about 5 minutes and I was on the phone with 911 when her mom came up and found her. Grateful it was me, some creepy pervert could have easily grabbed her and disappeared since I was the only adult who noticed something wasn't right. Keep your eyes open when you're out there!"
