Crapo: Russia threatens our security

Sen. Mike Crapo has issued the following statement defending his bipartisan Russia sanctions legislation, after Tuesday's passage by the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee of a resolution condemning the successful legislation and calling for friendlier relations with Russia:

"Russia's increasing aggressive actions are a threat to our national and economic security, as well as to the security of our allies. Despite existing sanctions, it remains a hostile, recalcitrant power. This legislation strengthens sanctions against the Russian Federation for its illegal invasion and annexation of Crimea, its support for the Assad Regime in Syria, continuing escalation of violence in eastern Ukraine, promotion of corruption, and malign cyber activities against businesses and citizens of the United States. There is significant support for ensuring sanctions are effective and proportionally enhanced, particularly in light of escalating aggressive Russian behavior."
