Huckleberries Thursday:

Nick Smoot and his wife, Kenna, are light-years ahead of the pack when it comes to dreaming big dreams.

Nick is the wunderkind behind the startup scene in Coeur d’Alene. He rescued the old Elks Building from decades of decay and is founder and CEO of Innovation Collective.

To use a chamber of commerce term, everything about him is “proactive.” And that includes his marriage.

In a recent Facebook post, Nick tells of being proactive about marriage counseling. Some might shy from it as an admission of problems or weakness. Nick and Kenna embrace it.

In the Facebook post, Nick tells of running into friends in the lobby of a family therapist. They visited and exchanged information about family and children.

With Nick’s permission, Huckleberries reports the rest of the post: “Too many people don’t address the stress and mental health components of life. Get over the stigma and set an appointment. My wife has always said mental health is as important as physical health. She’s right, and we are all a bit crazy.”
