Wild Card/Friday -- 7.28.17 23 

I trimmed a large burning bush in my large garden area in the back yard over the weekend and inadvertently found a great spot to take a nap. I tend to grab a quick nap in the evenings as the week moves along. I suspect the napping will increase as a result of the new shade spot. Q: Do you nap regularly?

Otter picks Eastwood for P&R board 

Doug Eastwood, long-time former Coeur d'Alene Parks & Cemetery director, has been appointed by Gov. Butch Otter to the Idaho Parks & Recreation Board. Eastwood was the guiding light for most of Coeur d'Alene's park development from the 1980s until he retired in 2013.

Crapo, Risch earn Trib JEERS 

"Is there any health care cut so draconian that these two would oppose it?" wonders Opinion Editor Marty Trillhaase of the Lewiston Tribune. Trillhaase is referring to the votes from U.S. Sens. Mike Crapo and Jim Risch earlier this week to begin an attempt to repeal Obamacare. That attempt, of course, failed this morning.

Trib jabs Kootenai GOP resolution

Here's another indication how far out the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee has gotten. Trib Opinion Editor Marty Trillhaase gave a CHEER to Congressmen Raul Labrador and Mike Simpson for joining the 419 to 3 vote to stiffen sanctions on Russia. The local GOP passed a resolution condemning the bill earlier this week.

Grocery tax repeal still cooking

Idaho Gov. Butch Otter may get a chance to veto a bill repealing the state's grocery tax once more before he leaves office. Legislators who successfully pushed the bill to passage in the 2017 session plan to bring it back next year. And they're boosted in their efforts by strong revenue performance in fiscal 2017.
