The future of a 751-acre conservation area east of Coeur d'Alene will include mountain bike trails — a hotly-debated topic during the public comment period. BLM plans include additional hiking and equestrian trails, mountain bike trails, gravel parking lot and a child-friendly mountain bike loop. Thoughts? CH

Get ready for Car d’Lane

The 27th annual Car d’Lane Cruise and Show takes place today and Saturday, and the city of Coeur d’Alene is reminding community members the downtown area will have various road closures for the festivities. Car d’Lane attracts thousands of residents and visitors downtown to view classic cars and trucks from 1975 and earlier. Will you be there? CH

Even then, it’s really not that bad unless you’re a long-time local meteorologist and you’ve been asked to help give away a car to fans on the field. More 'sound and fury' at Evergreen College as about 50 50 conservative activists from the Patriot Prayer group marched onto the campus Thursday. U.S. to send almost 4,000 more troops to Afghanistan 13 

The Pentagon will send almost 4,000 additional American forces to Afghanistan, a Trump administration official said Thursday, hoping to break a stalemate in a war that has now passed to a third U.S. commander in chief. The deployment will be the largest of American manpower under Donald Trump’s young presidency.

18 arrested in drug raids in Spokane, Kootenai and Yakima counties 

Federal agents and local police raided 15 homes across the region and arrested 18 people to break up a drug trafficking ring. The effort included the FBI, Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration working with Spokane Police and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office in Spokane, Spokane Valley, Yakima and Post Falls.
