Weekend Wild Card -- 3.18.17 10

I was surprised that the Coeur d'Alene School Board, once the focus of a fierce battle between ultra-conservatives and moderates in this community, will have only one contested race this spring. Incumbents Dave Eubanks and Tom Hearn will return to do their good work for another four years (even if an unexpected write-in candidate should arise).

May opposed in CdA trustee race

There will be only one contested school trustee race in Kootenai County this spring -- between Lisa May and John Rubert for the Coeur d'Alene Zone 1 seat now held by Christa Hazel. The only races that received much interest were for the Consolidated Free Library and the hospital district. See complete list of spring candidates from clerk's office.

Surplus lot 11

I checked out the property south of the southern City Hall lot that ignite cda considers surplus. It's a fair piece of property, if you combine the city lot on the southeast corner. There's only one house on the odd-shaped property, at the corner of Pine & 8th. You can see 4 photos from different angles by clicking on link.

The Spokane region and North Idaho will be spared closure of any J.C. Penney stores in the next few months, according to the company. Hasbro reveals new Monopoly tokens

I haven't played Monopoly in years. The game takes too long. When I did, however, my favorite token was the shoe. I always picked it. Now, the shoe is gone, along with the thimble and wheel barrel. In their place, Hasbro announces today, are a T-Rex, rubber ducky & penguin. Q: Which token do you usually pick in Monopoly? Why?

Otter wants to keep grocery tax 16

Just when the Idaho Senate finally has the right tax to dump, the grocery sales tax, Idaho Gov. Butch Otter puts his oar in the water and says, don't do it: "I see no reason to change our current system and I oppose efforts to do so.” At the rate the Legislature under-budgets to run surpluses, Idaho can afford dumping the sales tax.

A close encounter with Brit runner Mo Farah 10

It’s not every day that one of our Huckleberry Friends hangs out with a Olympic gold medalist, like British long-distance runner Mo Farah. But Lisa Wood Hunt of Coeur d’Alene did. Well, hangin' out might be a bit exaggerated. Q: Tell us about a time that you had a chance encounter with a famous person.

A proposal from Sen.
