City to unveil trails, bike plan

In a news release today, Deputy City Administrator Sam Taylor comments:

New standards for bike facilities, new trail expansions and new ways to meet the needs of bicyclists and pedestrians are part of a major update to the City’s Trails & Bikeways Master Plan.

The proposed changes are part of a master plan update the City is seeking public comment on from 4 to 6 p.m. March 29 in the Coeur d’Alene Public Library Community Room, 702 E. Front Ave. Public comments will also be accepted in writing through April 7.

The City’s Pedestrian & Bicycle Community has worked on the plan update for more than two years, and sought initial public comments on the draft proposal in October 2016. As new members of the committee came on board with additional ideas for the plan, the City saw another opportunity for community feedback on the plan.

The plan sets a long-term vision to help Coeur d’Alene become one of the top bicycling and pedestrian-friendly communities in the Northwest.

Last updated in 2010, the Trails & Bikeways Master Plan has been the catalyst for numerous achievements throughout the community, setting the stage for 8.22 miles of new shared-used pathways, 18 lane miles of on-street bike lanes, the addition of new bike racks and corrals, a bicycle repair station in McEuen Park, and the creation of the City’s first bike boulevards – a more bicycle-friendly streetscape on both Young Avenue and Fort Grounds Drive.
