Qualfon to hire 300 within months 

In 2016, the global company Qualfon acquired the San Antonio center services company Culture.Service.Growth. Now, about a year after that acquisition, North Idaho's Qualfon centers are experiencing their own growth. Devin Heilman/Coeur d'Alene Press reports that Qualfon will hire 300 people locally within the next few months.

I've finished three full months as a daily columnist for my newspaper. It has been a challenge to balance the increased print load with what I do here. OTOH, I enjoy the daily space in the newspaper Mondays through Thursdays. And I enjoy seeing the ongoing improvements in the print product.

Gov. Butch Otter’s press conference on the legislative session at 2 today has been canceled – the governor has laryngitis and can’t speak. It’s being rescheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday. “It just got much worse today,” said Jon Hanian, Otter’s press secretary.

Few named AP coach of the year 

Mark Few, who led Gonzaga to a 36-1 record, is The Associated Press' Coach of the Year. Few has taken the Zags to the NCAA Tournament in all 18 of his seasons there. He was a runaway winner Thursday receiving 31 votes from the same 65-member media panel that selects the weekly Top 25.

Back at it 

Construction workers from Thorco were back at work today finishing the roof and parapet at the Coeur d'Alene Carousel, just east of Memorial Field. Carousel booststers have been pushing to get their project finished by the tourist season this year.
