Morrison Recovers ♥ For BB In Serbia

Sam Amick/SI.com caught up w/ex-Gonzaga Bulldog Adam Morrison playing basketball in Serbia and filed a report that reads in part: “The 27-year-old who went from cult hero in college to purported NBA bust describes the inauspicious start in Charlotte, from the pressure of being the No. 3 pick in 2006 to the devastating knee injury that cost him a season, and how the hopeful return went awry with his unproductive pairing with coach Larry Brown. He talks about the two lost years with the Lakers in Los Angeles, a professional hell of individual failure and collective success where he might have been the most mocked champion in the history of the game. He details the disappearing act thereafter, how his release from the Washington Wizards in October 2010 led to such a low that he fell out of love with the game that once inspired him.” Amick goes on to say that Morrison has recovered his love for the game and some success here. Question: Would you like to see Morrison back in the NBA some day?

Morrison Rookie Jersey? Or Slurpee?

In the “How Have the Mighty Fallen” Dept., Lewiston Tribune sportswriter Ryan Collingwood, Class of ’02 at  the defunct Falls Christian Academy in Post Falls, Facebooks that he bought an unused Adam Morrison rookie (Charlotte Bobcats) jersey for $2 at a thrift store. Ryan figures it would have cost $100 new back in the day before the acclaimed rookie from Gonzaga became a bust with two world championship rings with the L.A. Lakers. Such has been the downward trajectory of A-Mo that Ryan wonders: “Should I have just gotten a Slurpee instead?”

Question: Would you rather buy an Adam Morrison Charlotte Bobcats' rookie jersey in mint condition for $2 or a Slurpee?

Blanchette: The Jimmering Of America

It’s good to hear at least one TV talking head who hasn’t quite caved in to the Jimmering of America, though the coup will undoubtedly be accomplished today should Brigham Young sneak by Gonzaga and into next week’s Sweet 16. He is the Frednomenon of college basketball, this Jimmer Fredette – not simply because he’s throwing in nearly 29 points per game, but for how he throws them in: no-conscience 30-footers, wrong-footed sideways flicks, silly scoops, delicate banks. That he’s managed to carve out his legend even as his games mostly have been exiled to the triple-digit channels on your dish is even more remarkable. He’s a mythic figure. The Jimmer. This year’s version of The ’Stache. As the Cougars and Zags won here Thursday, the collision of the Jimmer and Adam Morrison cults was inevitable/John Blanchette, SR. More here. Question: Is BYU's Jimmer Fredette as good as Adam Morrison in his day with the Gonzaga Bulldogs?

High Noon: Morrison No. 1 Bust?

In this October 2008 AP file photo, Orlando Magic guard J.J. Redick (7) drives around Charlotte Bobcats forward Adam Morrison (35) during the second half of an NBA preseason basketball game in Orlando. The Bobcats drafted the former Gonzaga Bulldog third overall in the 2006 NBA draft. Now, a list published in RealClearSports ranks Morrison as the No. 1 NBA basketball bust of all time. Story here. Question: Why do such former Gonzaga Stars like Morrison and Dan Dichau have such a hard time making it in the NBA?

Wheaties Honors L.A. Lakers

Rather than run a cutline contest today, I’m posting this AP photo of the new Wheaties box, honoring the Los Angeles Lakers, who repeated their NBA championship by beating Boston last night in Game 7 Thursday night. You’re welcome to comment on the outcome.

Question: Is it fair that former Zag Adam Morrison (No. 6 in photo) now has 2 NBA championship rings, although he contributed little to those titles with the Lakers, while another ex-Zag (and NBA Hall of Famer) John Stockton has none.

High Noon: Morrison, Redick Struggle

In this October 2008 AP file photo, Orlando Magic guard J.J. Redick (7) drives around Charlotte Bobcats forward Adam Morrison (35) during the second half of an NBA preseason basketball game in Orlando, Fla. Both college stars have floundered in the NBA. Story here.

Question: Are you surprised that ex-Zags star Adam Morrison and ex-Duke star J.J. Redick have struggled in the NBA? Why do you think they’ve struggled?

Ex-Zag Morrison Traded To Lakers

The Charlotte Bobcats sent struggling forward Adam Morrison and reserve Shannon Brown to the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday for forward Vladimir Radmanovic. The move is the third trade the Bobcats have made this season in a roster shakeup under first-year coach Larry Brown. Morrison was the third overall pick of the 2006 draft and managing partner Michael Jordan‘s first major move since buying into the Bobcats. But Morrison had failed to crack the starting lineup and his minutes had declined under Brown. Morrison will give the Lakers an outside shooting threat, while the 6-foot-10 Radmanovic gives the Bobcats more depth up front/AP.

Question: Why have former Zags like Morrison & Dickau been less than stellar in the NBA but lesser college light Rodney Stuckey is making it big with the Pistons?
