Tijuana: Shadow Of Its Former Self

I read recently that the town of Tijuana is a shell of its’ former self. That most of the buildings are boarded up. The sleezy bars of yesterday and may other types of tourist attractions are gone. All of this because the drug cartels have used it for a battle ground, and tourist don’t feel safe with bodies laying in the streets at night.
Which made me think of the days, years and years ago, that I spent in the little town of Tijuana. Mostly going over with my ex-sister-in-laws while they got their hair done or went to the dentist. Both costing only a small percentage of what they were done in the USA/Cis, From A Simple Mind. More here.

Question: Which place in Mexico do you enjoy visiting? Do you still feel safe in going to Mexico for a vacation?

Do You Have A Hero In Your Family?

Do you have a hero in your family? We do. His name is Paul. He is my cousin. And the incident happen about 60 years ago. When he was about 9 or 10 years old. I can close my eyes and see the same scene as if it was yesterday. It was a sunny day. And we were at 3rd Beach in Middletown, R.I. We were near the Navy side as my uncle was in the Navy. We would go down there often with my Aunt Harriet’s family. She had 4 children at that time and Dad just had my brother and myself. We would have clam bakes or just picnic lunch with tuna fish, or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with pop. This day we were all playing on the beach and for some reason my cousin Paul, his brother Parker and my brother Roy decided to get into the rowboat and go out a short distance/Cis, From A Simple Mind. More here.

Veterans Day: ‘Are We Worth It?’

Remember that opening/closing scene from “Saving Private Ryan” when the guy who got saved is walking among the rows of white crosses, wondering if he was worth the effort? Well, Cis/From A Simple Mind has a post today along the same lines. With Veterans Day on her mind, Cis points out that so many have died for us — you and I and the rest of the country — to preserve our freedoms. Then, Cis writes: “Which makes me wonder sometimes — were we worth it? … We have become a whining, sniveling bitching country. Nothing is good enough for us. We want everything now. And as our country sits on the edge,we citizen cry about us. What it is doing to us. We want the government out of our hair, yet blame it when we don’t have what we want.” (AP photo: Deborah Barr, of Ortonville, Mich., grasps her brother U.S. Navy HT1 Daniel Doule’s gravestone earlier today in Holly, Mich.)

Question (from Cis): Are we worth it?

Cis: Still Early To Bed, Early To Rise

My body goes with daylight. Meaning when the sun is up, my body wakes me and I get out of bed. And when it is dark, I start to run down. Probably comes from my childhood. As we woke up at dawn to do the farm work. And my folks had us in bed by the time it got dark or shortly after. I think 8p.m. was our bedtime for winter. Over the years, I was always an early riser/Cis, From A Simple Mind. More here.

Question: Are you an early riser? How early?

Cis: Scooter Store Ads Age Me

I knew I was old.. after all 70 is not young. I don’t feel old, still feel like 48 even tho the mirror tells me some old lady took over my body … But yesterday’s mail made it official … I am old. I got an ad for THE SCOOTER STORE … they gave me a coupon for a free consultation. Even a free puzzle and game books… WTH???? They must have a mailing list from SS or AARP. Because so far so good, I am walking quite well, thank you very much/Cis, From A Simple Mind.

Question: How old is old? Do you feel old?

What’s In Your Bathroom Cabinet

On a television show years ago, I saw where one of the actors was in a friends bathroom. That actor looked thru the medicine cabinet !!! Have you ever done that? I haven’t. Never even thought of it, before the show. Makes me shudder to even think of it now, and EVEN MORE, the thought that someone would do that in my bathroom. I have a boring cabinet, but still. What is in your bathroom cabinet? Have you ever looked in someone else’s … and if you do, would you be ok with someone looking in yours?/Cis, From A Simple Mind. More here.

Question: What is in your bathroom cabinet? Have you ever looked in someone else’s?

The King Bags Elk, Observes Code

Also there is the written code is, no one leaves camp until all have gotten their elk. The ones who have gotten their elk and deer become drivers for the others. Which the King has become, as he got his last week. So now he drives the hunter to the top of the ridge, and then goes down to the bottom and waits for the hunter to come out and give him/her a ride back to camp. And if the hunter gets his, then the King finds a way to get as close as he can to the kill and help bring the animal to camp. The King has the hunter who is 87. Who he admires his stamina, as this man handles the trails like a 20 year old. So the King has had the best time of his life/Cis, From A Simple Mind. More here. Question: What do you enjoy most about hunt, besides bagging your big-game animal?

HBO Blogos (F - N): No Longer Blogging

I am not the last one standing … Gone but hopefully not forgotten. Not as formerly done … Gone fishing. Closed shop for the summer … All good titles for this last regular post of the blog. I have decided to let the blog go for the summer. Maybe be back in the Fall … I might leave a post from time to time, if something strikes me worth writing about. Might add pictures from time to time … Just that regular posting just isn’t fun any more. And I said I would quit if it wasn’t fun anymore/Cis, From A Simple Mind. More here.

Question: Have you started a blog and quit? Or are you blogging and thinking about quitting? Is blogging still fun for you? Or is Facebook more fun?

Cis: Calls Home To Aging Parents

Here we have Mother’s Day coming fast and furious. And just a month behind is Father’s Day. The time of phone calls. Be it the obligation kind or the grateful kind. When your parents are younger and you are in your 30’s, 40’s or even 50’s. it usually is a fun time to catch up. And
many subjects to talk about. But when your parents hit 70 plus, how do you do? Yes, You have the, “how are you”? “What have you been doing lately”, Answering the questions of how is your job going, and what are the kids up to these days? You talk about the weather. And then what?/Cis, From A Simple Mind. More here.

Question: Cis has a way of hitting nails on the head. Did the scenario she described above re: aging parents and Mother’s/Father’s days hit home to you? Or do you have a better relationship than that with your aging parents?

Cis: To Befriend Or To Ignore

That is the question on Facebook. Well, it says to “confirm” … or one of your friends will send someone else’s Facebook address and tell you, you should befriend them … So when should you? And when should you Ignore? And what are the consequences of an ignore? I guess I will find out, as I did hit the Ignore button … It wasn’t that this person was not a nice person. It is just this person has not been in my life for over 30 years. And only then as an ex of a friend of mine/From A Simple Mind. More here.

Question: So when do you choose to befriend and to ignore?
