Our column today talked about how to acknowledge, during holiday celebrations, a child who has died. Cathy has some good suggestions here. We have a long tradition at our house of honoring the deceased elders by placing their favorite alcoholic drink in front of their photos on the kitchen counter. So it's bourbon for my dad, Papa Joe, scotch for my brother-in-law Adam and and vodka for Hollis, my mother's late-in-life boyfriend who died three years ago. Question: How do you remember departed family members are Christmas holiday gatherings?
OrangeTV: I lived in Seattle years ago on Christmas and couldn’t make it over to Idaho for the holiday and only had plans with friends for Christmas Eve. I worked at a retail store and we were the only place on Broadway open on Christmas besides a Chinese quickie mart. I worked and ended up having a wonderful, festive day with my co-workers and regular customers.
Question: How do you cope when you have to work a holiday?
So, am I the only one who has to spend time at my desk today? Another S-R blog ran a thread titled “The Long Weekend Loose Thread,” which is fine, but the blog host put it up YESTERDAY. Geez.
