Wednesday Poll: The tragic death of triathlete Sean Murphy of Seattle in the 10th annual Ironman Coeur d'Alene hasn't dampened community enthusiasm for the event. 96 of 113 respondents (84.96%) say they're still strong supporters of the event. Only 14 of 113 respondents (12.39%) say they're less enthused about the event as a result of Murphy's death. 3 (2.65%) were undecided.

Weekend Poll: A plurality of Hucks Nation sez both Congress and the Idaho Legislature are terrible examples of governing bodies. 103 of 232 respondents (44.4%) said that Congress and the Idaho Legislature are equally bad in the performance of their duties. 72 of 232 respondents (31.03%) picked Congress as worst than the Idaho Legislature. 56 of 232 (24.14%) said the Legislature was worse than Congress.

Tuesday Poll: Hucks Nation believes that controversial Richard Mack will end up speaking at the Kootenai County GOP Lincoln Day Dinner March 24, despite being invited/disinvited/invited. 46 of 76 respondents (60.53%) said he will ultimately speak at the annual local Republican fundraiser. Only 12 of 76 respondents (15.79%) said Central Committee opponents would prevail and Mack'd be disinvited again. 18 of 76 (23.68%) were undecided.

Commissioner Poll: A supermajority of Hucks Nation expects Commissioner Dan Green to retain his seat this fall. 70 of 102 respondents (68.63%) picked Green to win, 18 of 102 (17.65%) picked Rathdrum Mayor Vic Holmes, and 14 of 102 (13.73%) picked Larry Spencer.

Tuesday Poll: Ron Paul may be third in Idaho and last in the number of states won, but he's first in the hearts of Hucks Nation, winning the straw poll over Mitt Romney. Paul received 71 of 161 votes (44.1%) in a poll where respondents were asked: Who would win the Idaho GOP caucus election. Romney was second with 65 of 161 (40.37%), followed by Kootenai County winner Rick Santorum with 13 votes (8.07%), Buddy Roemer 8 votes (8.07%), and Newt Gingrich with 4 (2.48%).

Monday Poll: 82% of Hucks Nation oppose the $35.7 million tax cut for prosperous Idahoans that easily passed the Idaho House, including 50% who said “hell no.” 83 of 167 respondents (49.7%) said “hell no” to the tax cut while 54 of 167 respondents (32.34%) simply said no. Only 30 of 167 (17.96%) supported the tax cut.

Monday Poll: Almost a supermajority of Hucks Nation disagrees with GOPresidential candidate Rick Santorum's claim that President Barack Obama is hostile to religion. 128 of 201 respondents (63.68%) said Obama isn't hostile to religion. 68 of 201 respondents (33.83%) said the president is hostile to religion. 5 of 201 (2.49%) were undecided.

Dan English Poll: 61 of 117 respondents (52.14%) said they'd like to see former Kootenai County clerk Dan English, a Democrat, run for the seat currently held by state Rep. Phil Hart, R-Athol, if English decides to seek county or legislative office this year. 25 respondents (21.37%) want to see English run for county commission; 13 (11.11%) want him to seek Rep. Vito Barbieri's seat; 8 (6.84%) want him to seek Sen. Steve Vick's seat; and 10 (8.55%) want him to seek an undisclosed seat.

Monday Poll: 92 of 175 respondents (52.57%) said Catholic universities, hospitals, and charities should be forced under new Obama health care rules to provide insurance for workers covering birth control. 79 of 175 respondents (45.14%) said Catholic institutions shouldn't be forced to go against church doctrine to complay with federal mandates. 4 were undecided.

Thursday Poll: 48 of 87 respondents (55.17%) said they don't want to see political primaries moved to August this year, despite Idaho Supreme Court decision this week outlawing latest redistricting plan. 32 of 87 (36.78%) said they don't mind moving the primary election to August. 7 (8.05%) were undecided.

Tuesday's Poll: Overwhelmingly, Hucks Nation sez the best way to deal with the occasional KKK protest by local racist Shaun Winkler & a handful of followers is to ignore them. 122 of 141 respondents (86.52%) took that position. Only 17 of 141 respondents (12.06%) supported counter-demonstration as advocated by former Human Rights Education Institute educator Rachel Dolezal. 2 respondents were undecided.

Thursday Poll: A majority of Hucks Nation is hopeful that a new Republican group, North Idaho Political Action Committee, will be successful in helping elect “reasonable Republicans” to office. 53 of 94 respondents (56.38%) marked “I hope they can, I hope they can …” 20 of 94 (21.28%) say candidates supported by the new group will be “roadkill” in Republican primaries. 14 of 94 (14.89%) say NIPAC will bring balance back to the local Republican scene. 7 of 94 (7.45%) say NIPAC won't make a difference “but it's nice to have another Republican voice.”

Tuesday Poll: Retailers might not like to hear this, but Hucks Nation plans to spend either less or the same as last year for Christmas. 50 of 108 respondents (50%) said they planned to spend less on Christmas shopping this year. 47 of 108 (43.52%) said they planned to spend about the same as last year. Only 7 of 108 (6.48%) said they planned to spend more.

Monday Poll: Hucks Nation doesn't think either challenger Dan Gookin or Steve Adams will win Coeur d'Alene City Council seats today. 97 of 157 respondents (61.78%) said neither opponent of Mayor Sandi Bloem's administration will win council seats. Meanwhile, 29 of 157 (18.47%) said both would win; 24 of 157 (15.29%) said Gookin would win; and 7 of 157 (4.46%) said Adams would win. Moi? I don't think the majority is right this time.

Weekend Poll: A supermajority wants to see the Idaho Vandals return to the lower-division Big Sky Conference and re-form national rivalries with Montana, Montana State, & Eastern Washington. 85 of 120 respondents (70.83%) wants Idaho to quit trying to keep up with Boise State in Division I football and return to the Big Sky. Only 29 of 120 (24.17%) wants the Vandals to stay in Division I football at all costs. 6 (5%) were undecided.

Thursday Poll: A plurality of Hucks Nation voted that it's appalled that 3 of 4 Idaho congressmen received perfect 100% ratings for their voting records from the socially conservative Family Research Council. 61 of 129 respondents (47.29%) were appalled. Meanwhile, 38 of 129 respondents (29.46%) were delighted with the rating, and 27 of 127 (29.95%) didn't care either way. 3 were undecided.
