NI Blogs: Local Man Beats Cancer

IloveCdA.com is celebrating the fact that John Flaherty of Flaherty’s Framing & Fine Art has been pronounced cancer free — and is announcing a fund-raiser to help the family with the mountain of bills that was accumulated. More here.

NI Blogs: Loving John Mellencamp

“Hi, I’m John Mellencamp.” Yes you are. As many of you know, dear readers, the Lovely Family spent last night in musical heaven when we attended the Bob Dylan/John Mellencamp concert at Greyhound Park in Post Falls. Now, in the interest of full disclosure, your’s truly is not a huge Bob Dylan fan. To me the entry to “Rainy Day Women # 12 and 35” sounds like something out of a bad dream involving a Stephen King novel, a circus clown, a bloody knife and … well, you get the picture. Mellencamp, on the other hand. Him. I. Love/Blogmistress, ilovecda.com. More here (beware: language).

Caleb’s Garlic Scape Pesto Recipe

It took a couple of weeks for me to talk Hubs into trying it, but tonight I put my foot down. There’s a reason he envies my ability to pick the best thing on a menu whenever we go out to eat (which happens all too often). I will try darn near anything. Garlic scapes are the wild, curly shoots that spring from the tops of garlic plants. And, from this first introduction, I can tell you that they pack a wallop of garlic flavor. If you like garlic, you will LOVE garlic scapes. The recipe is not original to me, but it’s ridiculously easy and keeps well in an airtight container. Just make sure you press a layer of plastic wrap against the surface before you put the lid on/ilovecda.com. More here (including recipe).

Question: How often do you use pesto?

Local Blogs: Free Concerts Galore

At ilovecda.com, Blogmistress provides a calendar of all of the free concerts scheduled at Coeur d’Alene’s City Park (Sunday afternoons), Sherman Square (Tuesday evenings), and Hayden City Park (Wednesday evenings) by Chris Guggemos’s Handshake Productions this summer. You can see the schedule here. Now, if someone can find out when the free concerts start at Riverstone Park, my summer schedule will be set.

North Idaho Blogosphere — 6.17.10

My mouth water just looking at the spinach salad creation that ilovecda.com made Monday night for her family Monday night. ilovecda.com writes: “There are many variations, but this one really satisfies. Packed with nutrients, the spinach pleases all when paired with tart Granny Smith Apples and creamy blue cheese crumbles.” You can get the recipe here.

A Woman Who Stares At Goats

Here, dear reader, is where I exercise my research abilities - can anyone say “Poli Sci Major” - and google me some goat milk factoids. Read it here, if you dare. But, never the less, I haven’t been able to convince Hubs to change our ways and the Lovely Family remains on a strictly cow’s milk only diet. Needless to say, my affinity toward the little creatures has grown in the past few months and I went gaga when the City of Coeur d’Alene announced they were going to use goats to clear the weeds around the city wells (where the use of chemicals is strictly prohibited)/ilovecda.com. More here. (Photo: ilovecda.com)

Question: ilovecda.com is trying to talk her husband into switching a family liquid staple from cow’s milk to goat’s milk. I spent a whole night during my formative years helping my cousin milk goats. Have you ever milked a goat?

To Think I Saw It On NW Boulevard

At ilovecda.com, the blogmistress writes: “Laughed my fanny off when I saw this today on the corner of Garden and Northwest Boulevard. I guess I’ve never paid attention before …”

Question: When did you last use a pay phone?
