Tribe Gets $11.8M For Medical Center

The Coeur d’Alene Tribe today received $11.8 million in federal funding to build a new medical center in Plummer. The Tribe anticipates the Benewah Medical Center will open in fall 2012. The project will go out to bid in December, and construction will start next spring. The funds are through the Affordable Care Act and will cover 68 percent of the $17.3 million project cost. The tribe will contribute $3 million, and the medical center has set aside $2.5 million to fund the balance of the project. The building will goup on six acres west of U.S. 95, roughly a mile from the existing center in downtown Plummer/Spokesman-Review. More here.

Question: What would western Benewah County be without the Coeur d’Alene Indian Tribe?
