Protestor Eric Thompson explains why he Occupies Moscow: “I am one of the Occupy Moscow members. I stand in Friendship Square silently with a sign. I stand there because the people of this country are being nickeled and dimed until they have lost the chance to advance in life. I stand there because it is expensive to be poor. In these days, banks and other financial institutions charge more for loans, have higher interest rates and add fees to people who make less than $500,000 a year. The money they take then goes to pay for elected officials so they will make laws benefiting corporations to make even more money off of those with lower incomes. It is an incestuous, cyclical system that is not democratic and does not serve the vast majority of the people of this country. More here. Question: Are monied interests driving this country into the ground?
Taking a page from the protests on Wall Street over the last several weeks, a local group of protesters plan to take to the streets of Moscow this afternoon. A Facebook event called Occupy Moscow has at least 38 people scheduled to attend its protest of corporate America with about a half hour before its scheduled noon start. Protesters are anticipating taking over Moscow’s Friendship Square until 7 tonight. Similar protests are planned around the state today, including in Boise, where The Associated Press reports dozens of people will take to the streets of downtown to protest against Wall Street/Brad Gary, via Lewiston Tribune Twitter.
