Northside garlic lovers have a new reason to rejoice this holiday season: They, too, now have their own garlic paradise. Last week, Raci Erdem, owner of Post Falls’ White House Grill and the Oval Office, and south Spokane’s West Wing, opened a stationary food truck — The Garlic Mobile — on a busy stretch of North Division. In case you’re not familiar with Erdem, he specializes in Mediterranean cuisine with a heavy dose of garlic. It’s hard to miss the Garlic Mobile. For one thing, the banner is visible from blocks away. And then there’s the smell. Step out of your car, and one whiff will tell you that you’re in the right place/Kristin Harrington, Inlander. Question: How often do you eat at the White House/Oval Office? Do you recommend it to friends?
A whole lotta peein’s goin’ on in downtown Coeur d’Alene after hours. And, judging from the latest Downtown Bar Report, not all of that urine is finding its way into proper receptacles. In a recent 12-day period, CPD Blues arrested eight drunks for public urination, including a 26-year-old man we’ll call I.P. Freely. Seems I.P. suffers from a small bladder or a fundamental lack of modesty. Case in point: I.P. was caught watering the sidewalk after exiting the Rendezvous bar en route to Las Palmitas. When the cops asked I.P. why he didn’t pee at the Rendezvous, the drunk said the restrooms were full. Then he admitted he’d gotten a citation in June for public peeing. He’d just paid off the $190 for that fine two days earlier. One of many stories in our Urine-Part-Of-Town/DFO, Huckleberries, SR. More here.

Question: Have you ever accidentally witnessed someone urinating in public? Want to share your reaction?
Raci Erdem called a few minutes ago to say that he meant absolutely nothing offense with the sign he posted to announce new Sunday hours for his White House/Post Falls restaurant: “Due to Boredom, Obama, Etc., we need your money.” Raci (pronounced Rah-gee) told Huckleberries that he would have published the same sign in an earlier time with the names of George Bush or Bill Clinton on it. He said he was disappointed that some people are upset, like the man who called him last night to say that he'd never dine at the White House again. Raci reiterated that he meant no offense, pointing out that he has used signs like “Gone fishing” in the past to let customers know that the business was shut for a period of time. Also, he said, he loves this country because you're allowed to express an opinion if you want. In his native Turkey, he said, he might be the target of a bomb for expressing an opinion. He was surprised that Your Huckleberry Hound had never eaten at his restaurant. (Photo courtesy of Kerri Thoreson Facebook page)
