On his Facebook wall for Remember the Roxy, OrangeTV provides this peek back at the Playland Pier of the 1950s. I believe the pier was at the current site of Independence Point. Anyone remember playing on the ferris wheel and other attractions? (Check out other old-time North Idaho photos at OTV's site here.)
At Remember the Roxy, OrangeTV writes of this matchbook cover: “Anyone remember this place where the ‘One More Thing’ store in downtown Coeur d’Alene is currently located? Or have a clue when it existed?
Anyone remember Barney’s Market in Midtown (current site of Capone’s)? In his Remember the Roxy blog, OrangeTV posts this photo (courtesy of Claudia Poupore Self) with this comment: “Photo taken in late 50s/early 60s. This corner is the current location of Capones, Discount Mart, etc. The Discount Food Mart, of course, is the former location of the Boys Youth Ranch thrift store.
How many of you remember the Ratskeller Inn? One of the bylaws on this “membership card,” photographed in the 1960s, is that all members were entitled to unlimited credit — “as long as it is accompanied by cash.” OrangeTV has posted a bunch of new photos of old Coeur d’Alene and North Idaho on his old Remember the Roxy Web site here.
Wanna know what Tubbs Hill looked like during the WWI era? OrangeTV had this shot posted on his secondary Web site, Remember The Roxy, today. He explains the shot, from the 1910s, as “Coeur d’Alene Railroad Boat Dock Saw Mill @ Tubbs (Hill).”
Question: When was the last time you hiked Tubbs Hill?
At Remember The Roxy, OrangeTV reminds us of the men and women with vision in the depths of the Great Depression who knew the importance of higher education for the Coeur d’Alene area. I wonder if there were misguided individuals who opposed the creation of a community college then as we have now who are fighting tooth and nail against the expansion of that great dream of long ago into an Education Corridor?
Question: Did you attend a community college?
