Idaho Blogs: Stallings Rips Statesman

Former U.S. Rep. Richard Stallings — who is helping out Tom Sullivan, the Democrats’ challenger to GOP Sen. Mike Crapo — is also campaigning against the Idaho Statesman. In an appeal for campaign contributions, Stallings ripped the Statesman for not covering the last week’s Crapo-Sullivan debate on Idaho Public Television. As editorial page editor, I am not involved in news coverage decisions. I will note for the sake of accuracy that I live-blogged at the debate, and
my Wednesday post-debate analysis appeared in the paper as the lead item of my Saturday column. So I don’t think it’s accurate to say the Statesman “took a pass” on covering the debate/Kevin Richert, Idaho Statesman. More here.

Question: As a general rule, is it wise to condemn a media organization covering a political race in which you are a candidate or a supporter?

Stallings: Minnick Resembles Me

While attending different events in Boise over Frank Church Weekend, I was a little surprised and dismayed to hear grumbling about a few of Congressman Walt  Minnick’s votes.  Apparently, in the minds of a few of our Party members, our newly elected Democratic Congressman is not voting with President Obama - or with the Democrats in Congress - often enough.  In fact, I heard one loyal Democrat say that she was so angry that she couldn’t vote for Mr. Minnick again.  As I reflected on these comments, I found myself smiling because it wasn’t that many years ago that many in our Party were saying the same things about me/Richard Stallings, former Idaho congressman. More here.

Question: Are you satisfied with Minnick’s performance as the 1st Congressional District representative so far?
