The Hillyard Business District got a head start on Halloween with a walking tour and trick or treating on Friday. The event was a success and the blog couldn't resist posting a photo of these little cuties.
The Northeast Youth Center and downtown Hillyard businesses are sponsoring a “trek and treat” neighborhood walk on Friday Oct. 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be lots of candy and Halloween fun - just stop by.
Just a reminder that the Hillyard Howl starts tomorrow - the blog will be there Saturday afternoon. Will the blog be dressed up? Hmm… Maybe? What should the blog dress up as? A newspaper man? Here are the howling details:
Hillyard has three days of Halloween fun and scares scheduled for Oct. 29 (noon-6 p.m.) Oct. 30 (10 a.m.-6 p.m.) and Oct. 31 from noon to 4 p.m. It’s the Hillyard Merchants and the Hillyard Kiwanis that are putting together the Hillyard Howl at 5015 North Market Street. Bring your already carved and decorated pumpkin, there will be games and apple bobbing, vendors and treats - and of course, a costume contest. Get your picture taken for $6 or knock the price down to $5 if you bring a donation of canned food for The Second Harvest Food Bank.
Spokane Police are promoting healthy role models for children and would love to showcase any child dressing up as a law enforcement officer. E-mail photos of children dressed up in police outfits to spokanepolice@gmail.com; we will post the photos on our SPD Facebook page. Any child submitting a photo is eligible for “lunch with a cop” at their school. Those who wish to post photos themselves may do so on our Spokane Police Department Facebook page. Spokane Police would like to remind kids of a few Halloween safety tips before they embark on trick or treating October 31:
ADULT SUPERVISION: Children should never go into a stranger’s house or ring the doorbell without a parent’s permission. Never get into the car with someone you don’t know. Only trick or treat friendly homes.
MAP OUT YOUR ROUTE: Be careful crossing streets, look both directions to make sure no cars are coming.
REMAIN VISIBLE: Make sure to always carry a flashlight, glow stick or reflective tape to be more visible to cars.
SAFETY IN NUMBERS: Stay in a group while trick-or-treating, or go with an adult.
DON’T COVER FACES: Paint kids faces instead of wearing masks so they can see when they are walking.
QUALITY CHECK TREATS: Instruct children not to eat any treats until they bring them home to be examined by an adult. And finally: HAVE FUN !
