Rain doesn’t dampen mood at Ephrata Raceway Park

A little rain didn't bother the crowd gathered for Saturday's program at Ephrata Raceway Park. Spanaway's Mike  Press picked up the Northwest Outlaw Street Stock Series main event victory.

After the raines cleaned the track, the weather gave us another beautiful evening
for racing at ERP with the Kim Janke State Farm Agent Youth Hornets, the Schaeffer
Oil Mini Stocks, the Outlaw Street Stocks Series and the Big Cars were back!  First
up was qualifing and Trophy Dashes, and the Razey brothers shared the spotlight,
here's who was quickest:

Fast Time:
Mini- #81 Charlie Larr, 16.81
Outlaw- #1 Mitch Kleyn, 15.58

Trophy Dashes:
B Youth Hornet- #67 Riley Gates
A Youth Hornet- #68 Bart Hector Jr
B Mini- #19 Eddie Razey
A Mini- #18 Jeramy Razey
B Outlaw- #77 Curt Adams
A Outlaw- #70 Kim Wennerberg
B Big Cars- #19 Troy Lannoy
A Big Cars- #911 Derrick Kapalo

Points are the name of the game the last half of the season and Heat races count
for points, so good, smart racing gets rewarded and the finishes are fun!  Five
first time racers for this season put some new blood into the Youth Hornets, late
arrivals put a twist into the Mini's, and more Outlaw regulars made for a great
night!  Here's how the heats finished:

B Youth- #00 Aylan Adamson, ML
#72 Kelly Olsick, Soap Lake
#89 Patrick Hector, Ephrata
#15 Derick Burck, Ephrata
#76 Cody Berry, Ephrata

A Outlaw- #22 Bryon Goetz, Okanagan
#70 Kim Wennerberg, Wen
#4 Brad Morrison, ML
#79 Michael Press, Spanaway
#15 Michael Knutson, Quincy
#1 Mitch Kleyn, Quincy
#40 Jason Ogle, Bothel

The stage was set for the Main Events and the racers put on a great show!  We save
the insane Big Cars for last, the Mini's had former champ Macken starting in the
back to watch, the outlaws had 50 laps to enjoy with the Trophy Dash and Heat winner
getting involved in a incident on the first lap.  But the big story of the night
was in the Youth Hornets.  After a complete restart, Jatender Veenstra, the only
girl in the field, and with no wins yet this season, flew from 9th to first in just
a few laps and held off hard chargers Hector Jr, Schooler and Blackburn for 16 laps!
The fans and I were standing and cheering as lap after lap she found a way to keep
the lead.  Everyone ran an awesome, clean driving race and it came down to a drag
race from turn four to the finish line!  Austin Schooler got a run on the outside
and just barely beat Veenstra to the line, do not mess with her next time guys!
Here's how they finished:

Youth Hornet- #96 Schooler
#11 Veenstra
#68 Hector Jr
#16 Blackburn
#6x Knutson
#00 Adamson
#67 Gates
#15 Burck
#76 Berry

#72 Kelly Olsick
#89 Hector DNF
#6 Mike Olsick DNF

Mini Stocks- #81 Larr

#84 Brown
#07 Lopes
#18 Jeramy Razey
#99 Gross
#19 Eddie Razey
#43 Brincefield
#38 Sonnenberg
#13 Todd DNF
#88 Dixon DNF

Outlaw Street- #79 Press
#81 Eric Hector
#68 Bart Hector
#15 Knutson
#70 Wennerberg
#4 Morrison
#64 Rutherford
#1 Kleyn
#22 Goetz
#1x Micus
#40 Ogle
#77 Adams
#41 Carver

Big Cars- #19 Lannoy
#95 Josh Hector
#11 Ray Hayne
#911 Kapalo

Thanks to everyone who raced, worked at the track and the
fans for such a fun evening, you make my job easy!  If you haven't watched the Big
Cars yet, you can witness the mayhem up close the next two Saturday nights.  August
1st the Big Cars will be joined with the NSRA, Youth Hornets, Mini's, but there
will be boats and who knows what else attached to the Big Cars!  Gates open at 5
racing at 6.
